The first few years of a girl’s life are important. These tend to be years of development and learning. He or she needs to develop many skills and concepts during infancy.     * Age-appropriateness. One of the very first things that you need to consider when buying toys is the age-appropriateness of the toy. Regularly being at the top toys list of the store doesn’t necessarily mean that it will be appropriate for the child. Almost all toys include a note or a label indicating the recommended age for the toy which can be used as an excellent guide in choosing toys that are age-appropriate for your kid.

    * Safety. Not all toys are safe for kids. Sad to say, there are many toy suppliers that do not necessarily consider what will be safe or not when creating and manufacturing these top toys. Safety is often factored in with the age-appropriateness of the toy. Toys which are meant to be used by infants should pose no choking dangers like removable small parts, strings, et cetera. For children under 3 years old, you should also check if the toy has very small parts and any cord or string on the toy shouldn’t be longer than seven inches to prevent risks of strangulation. Also, regardless of the age of the kid, it is important that the toy is lead-free.

    * Batteries. Lots of toys included in most top toys list use batteries. For kids under three, make sure the compartment for the batteries is secured by a screw.

    * Curiosity. Regardless how age-appropriate a toy is for your child or how safe it is, your kid may not benefit from it if it doesn’t appeal to his or her interest. Even toys that are regularly on top toys lists address a particular skill or interest of a child. For children less than a year old, toys that encourage exploration using their eyes and ears, colorful, and textured, are good. For toddlers, the top toys to give them are toys that target to develop gross motor skills and fine motor skills are preferred.

    * Variety. Although it is important to provide toys that appeal to your child’s interests, skills, and abilities, it is equally important to provide a variety of toys so that your child will also stimulate different skills.

    * Fun. There are some toys that focus on the development of the child but are too tedious for the child, reducing the fun factor for the kids. Encourage toys that are enjoyable to play with alone and also toys that are fun to play with someone else.

    * Research. Keep yourself updated with new toys and most importantly, with product recalls. Several manufacturers recall products every once in awhile for a variety of reasons. It is important to find out about these toys so you don’t make the mistake anymore of buying them or you can return them if your child already has them.

The size of the Model Trains Layouts you can design, build and shape depends on the amount of room in which you have to set it up. Some layouts can be quite small – shelf-top designs that can be accommodated in a very small space. Others can fill part of a room, or even a whole room or basement.

For a small, simple layout, a table will usually be adequate but most model railroaders aim to establish larger, permanent layouts. These will usually take construction of suitable benches, a great deal fixed to the walls of the room to provide a high degree of stability.

An important aspect of any model train setup is the organisation of the track itself. There are at least four primary layout patterns for setting out the track, and infinite variations of both track configuration and subsequent station placement. Four of the more common basic patterns are:

point to point – this is merely a straight line of track with a station at each end, with trains going from the station at one end to the other station; continuous loop in its simplest form this is either a circle or an oval and the trains move around it continuously, but it could be modified into a dogbone shape by pulling two opposite sides of the circle or oval collectively, giving a doubled track appearance in the heart with a smaller circular shape at either end; out and back where the train leaves the single station, travels around a pear-shaped layout and returns to the original station; station yard only where a single station is surrounded by a number of short, interconnected tracks, providing great opportunities for shunting.

From these four basic patterns, there are countless variations. Some possibilities are: combining two or more of the four basic patterns, for example adding an out and back at one or both ends of a point to point layout; adding double track to any of the first three basic layouts to allow two or more trains to operate at the same time; adding branch lines, allowing an increase in the number of stations; arranging a continuous loop as a figure-of-eight, even elevating one track over the other rather than having the crossing at the same level; using multiple levels, allowing the use of more track, and thus more activity, in small areas; adding station yards, with adequate standing tracks, to any of the configurations.

The number of possible variations you incorporate into your track layout will only be limited by the space you have available, your time and your patience and, of course, the size of your wallet.
